Michigan Milk: Locally Made, Naturally Nutritious

Looking into the milk cooler at the local grocery store, it is not obvious that the milk many Michiganders enjoy is locally produced. According to the Michigan Dairy News Bureau, the milk in the grocery store often comes from a local Michigan dairy farm only miles away.

Michigan’s local dairy farm families work every day to produce pure, fresh milk for those in their community, according to the Michigan Dairy News Bureau. Many dairy farms are passed from generation to generation, like the McCune Centennial Farm in St. Louis, Michigan. For more than 130 years, and five generations, the McCunes have worked to provide nutrient-rich milk for their friends, family and neighbors to enjoy.

There are approximately 1,890 Grade A dairy farms in Michigan, and come wind, rain – or even the holidays – Michigan’s dairy farm families care for their animals and their land, every day. Milk is picked up daily to be made into cheeses, yogurts, sour cream, butter and gallons of milk, so it can arrive fresh to local grocery stores.

Michigan’s dairy farms not only provide milk, cheese and yogurt to their communities, but also jobs. The agricultural industry provides careers for more than 1 million people in Michigan, and contributes more than $ 5.9 billion to the state’s economy. The dairy industry employs not only farmers, but also veterinarians, soil and environmental specialists, animal nutritionists, and equipment manufacturers, with many of the positions filled by local community members.

Michigan’s dairy farm families are proud to provide local, fresh milk and dairy products for those in their communities. Learn more about Michigan’s dairy farm families at http://www.milkislocal.com.
